Regional Growth Fund awards Aeromet £1m

The investment is expected to create up to 38 jobs across its sites in Rochester, Sittingbourne and Worcester.

Aeromet is a small to medium business which employs 245 staff, specialising in the production of components for the aerospace industry. Key customers include Airbus, Boeing and BAE Systems.

The funding will be used to research and develop Aeromet patented aluminium alloy, A20X, which is used in aerospace industry castings. Research into A20X, the strongest commercial cast aluminium alloy, will explore cost effective production of the metal and explore its use within aerospace, defence, renewables and automotives.

Aeromet aim to improve travel efficiency by reducing individual components’ weight and overall emissions.

Business Minister, Michael Fallon, visited Aeromet after the news broke.

He said: “Today’s announcement is great news for Aeromet in what could be a game changer for the industry. For me this project underlines the importance of supporting advanced manufacturing and innovation through the Regional Growth Fund – it creates jobs and acts as an important lever for bringing in skills and expertise.”
