Monitor regulates Rotherham NHS Foundation Trust

Friday February 15th, 2013

NHS watchdog, Monitor, has taken regulatory action at The Rotherham Foundation Trust (RFT) to improve its financial management and patient services.

The regulator found the Trust in significant breach of its terms of authorisation, after failing to promptly address financial problems. The key concerns, cited by Monitor, included the Trust’s failure to deliver its savings plan and electronic patient records system.

Monitor has asked the Trust to take urgent action to review its corporate and financial governance and address its financial problems. The Trust has already appointed an Electronic Patient Record and an interim Chief Executive and to resolve on-going issues with its patent care and database.

The Trust must now regularly report to Monitor, with feedback on its progress milestones.

Stephen Hay, Managing Director for Provider Regulation at Monitor, said: “The Trust has had financial problems for a while and we are concerned that their failure to address them.”
