Kennedy announces £1.8m scheme

Thursday September 22nd, 2011

Northern Ireland Transport Minister Danny Kennedy has announced the start of completion works on the A32 at Drumskinny between Dromore and Irvinestown, County Tyrone.

The Minister said the scheme, which comprises 1km of realignment and widening to provide a 9.3m wide road, will provide significant benefits to the road user.

Mr Kennedy said: “The main objectives of the scheme are to reduce journey times, improve road safety and provide better overtaking opportunities along the route. When completed, the scheme will result in a more efficient, safe, attractive and reliable route for traffic using the A32. It will be of particular benefit to emergency vehicles and other traffic movements associated with the South West Acute Hospital which is currently under construction.

“A £1m completion contract has been awarded to Fox Contracts. Advance site clearance and earthworks have already been undertaken in 2010 and 2011. The total cost of the Drumskinney project, including the advance works and lands costs, is estimated at £1.8m.

The scheme is programmed for completion by March 2012.
