The European Investment Bank (EIB) has signed a €400m finance contract with the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in France for the renovation and construction of 34 lycées (upper secondary schools). The contract was signed by Vice-President of the EIB, Philippe de Fontaine Vive.

The objective of these projects is to provide modern, well-equipped facilities for young people in accordance with stringent environmental protection and development requirements.

The investment will provide a multitude of benefits for the region, including the creation of lycées which lead the way in terms of energy performance and the safeguarding of employment.

Mr de Fontaine Vive said: “I hope that this European partnership with the region will be the first of a long series, which will include a solar energy project. This type of operation demonstrates how close the EIB is to the citizens of Europe.”
