According to media reports cyber threats are preventing smaller businesses from contributing to growth through e-commerce.

Federation of Small Business has warned that and a sound cyber security policy is required before many will take advantage of improving internet infrastructure.

The FSB’s home affairs chairman, Anne Swain said  that the government’s investment in superfast broadband provided ‘huge opportunities’ to help businesses grow.

However, a significant percentage of businesses would not sell or buy online due to a fear of cyber crime.

Anne Swain said: “Businesses are concerned about online scams/phishing emails (particularly recently well targeted HMRC scams), company identity/IP theft, attacks to their IT systems and online card fraud.”
