Having been the subject of an awful experience in a ‘showpiece’ hospital built under a PFI agreement, I decided to look into the hospital finances. It transpired that the staff had been cut and services delayed particularly in the area that I had been trweated in. I have to commend the nurses who cared for me, some were on their seventh consecutive working day due to sickness and shortages. However the cash shortages which resulted in such stretched services were directly attributed to the overspend due to the PFI agreemnt. These arrangements were obviously poorly thought out and smacks of political expediency to create an inpression of competence that was in reality lacking.
