Welcoming the news that Aberdeen Football Club plans to award contracts for the construction of its new sports hub to local companies, the Federation of Small Businesses’ (FSB) development manager for the North East of Scotland, David Groundwater, offered the FSB’s help and support in organising a “meet the buyer” event to enable local businesses to demonstrate the vast skills and expertise that lie on the Club’s doorstep.

David Groundwater said: “The news that Aberdeen Football Club plans to utilize the best of the North East’s local businesses in the construction of its new stadium and community facilities will be warmly welcomed by the local business community.

“There are many experienced, skilled and highly professional small businesses in Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and, indeed right across the North East, that will be eager to get involved in this major project.

“Not only do North East businesses have what is required, our research shows that every £1 spent with local small businesses generates an additional 63p of benefit for the local economy, compared to just 40p when it is spent with large local firms.

“If you spend money with a smaller local businesses, significantly more of it will find its way back into the local economy, sustaining and creating more local jobs and opportunities. A clear positive to a project designed to be of benefit to the community.”
