Study praises Scottish NHS

The Nottingham Business School says that Scotland has set an example for the rest of the UK in the methods used for improving the NHS.

A new report from the business school, titled Partnership inScotland1999-2000, has applauded Scottish Ministers for devising a way to bring about a ‘mature and positive approach to industrial relations’ in the health services sector.

The report says this mechanism has led to positive changes in NHS Scotland and has helped to realise the goal of providing ‘high-quality patient care’.

The study’s co-author and lecturer in human resources management, Dr. Peter Samuel, said: “NHS Scotland clearly believes the best way to deliver better healthcare is to improve how staff are engaged.”

NHS Scotland believes that the best results can be obtained by concentrating on improving staff engagement in the organisation. Employers and the Scottish Government have committed the staff to improve patient care by cultivating their commitment to health policies and organisational restructuring.
