One-site civic centre to save Bexley £1m

Thursday December 29th, 2011

A planning application to turn the former Woolwich Building Society Headquarters in Bexleyheath into a one-site civic office has been submitted.

The self-financing proposal will save Bexley Council around £1m a year in taxpayers’ money as it reduces the number of its main sites from four to one, decreasing office costs and bringing Council staff together. The move is being made possible by the sale of the sites the Council will vacate.

Cabinet Member for Finance and Corporate Services Cllr Colin Campbell said: “This is a major step towards Bexley’s long-held desire to make much-needed savings on accommodation costs, helping to protect frontline services.”
