NHS Tayside puts pen to paper for Managed Services

According to media reports NHS Tayside has signed a two year deal with ReStart Consulting for a full managed service for its new Ensemble production environment.

It was announced in April that NHS Scotland had picked InterSystems’ Ensemble to provide integration across the Scottish health service.

Mike Symers, managing director at ReStart Consulting, said NHS Tayside had no previous experience of Ensemble and therefore looked for a partner to provide a development/production environment, training and other services.

This follows the success of the initial contract which saw NHS Tayside focus on creating a working and validated Ensemble production environment, and Ensemble adaptors to support the health board’s clinical portal, with links to its patient administration, centralised demographics and results reporting systems.

Work will now start on introducing additional information flows, and to make the portal service available to NHS organisations for which NHS Tayside provides IT managed services.

One of those relying on the managed service is Surrey and Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust, which signed an agreement with ReStart for integration support last year.

The database gathers a feed of patient movement from the PAS and transfers it into a back-end Cache database, which is then available for viewing in departmental systems.

The database can include a ‘bolt-on’ notification system to alert relevant people when a patient with specific requirements is admitted.
