West Lothian Council is proposing to build a new complex care housing development at Cawburn Road, Pumpherston.

The Council Executive has approved plans to seek the necessary consents for the proposed new £3million project which will allow the project to progress.

It’s expected that building work will begin next summer subject to all approvals being obtained with a completion date expected in the Autumn of 2021.

West Lothian Health and Social Care Partnership (HSCP) is working with NHS Lothian and other Lothian HSCPs on a redesign and modernisation programme for adults with learning disabilities which will see a significant shift in the balance of care from hospital to community settings by 2020 / 21. The programme focuses on people receiving care, support and treatment within the community where possible.

Executive councillor for Social Policy, Angela Doran said: “The proposed project will enable the council to effectively contribute to the overarching strategic approach to redesigning learning disability services in West Lothian. “The council is committed to supporting the most vulnerable members of our communities and delivering services to support them that are accessible. To achieve this it is essential that we have appropriate property assets from which to accommodate these essential services within our communities. The proposed project for the development of a Complex Care Housing facility supports these principles.”
