National GO Awards 2013/14 – Can you make the grade?

Monday February 11th, 2013

GO Awards Winners GroupThe National GO Awards are now in their 11th year and are widely regarded across government and industry as the benchmark for recognising excellence in public procurement. With nine categories to choose from, the National GO Awards provide all types of organisation with a platform to promote, highlight and share the initiatives that are making a real difference across procurement in the UK.

Last year’s event was bigger and better than ever before, and the quality and quantity of entries has certainly raised the bar for future Awards ceremonies. In the GO Procurement Innovation or Initiative of the Year Award, always a popular and fiercely contended category, the overall winner reflected the calibre of entries received and the high standing of winners which your submission will be up against in this year’s Awards.

East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub was recognised in the Procurement Innovation or Initiative of the Year  category for the creation and implementation of its Specials Prescribing Toolkit, an initiative which GO Awards judges believed to be ‘genuinely groundbreaking’ with the potential to deliver millions in savings. It took an innovative and collaborative approach to tackling a serious problem within the NHS; an issue that was costing tens of millions each year, and potentially affecting the safety of patients.

Accepting the Award at the prestigious black tie ceremony at the Hilton Birmingham Metropole Hotel, Melanie Nicholson, Communications Specialist, East of England NHS Collaborative Procurement Hub, said: “We are absolutely delighted that this very worthwhile and ambitious project has been recognised by winning a GO Award. Developing the ‘Specials Toolkit’ was highly complex and involved a huge amount of collaboration with many different stakeholders across multiple clinical areas. We would particularly like to thank the Specials Sourcing Group members from NHS Trusts in the East of England for their input and support, without whom this project would not be the success it is.”
