The annual GO Excellence in Public Procurement Awards Scotland returns this October – do you have a success story you would like to share? Now is your time to shine.

As anyone working in public procurement in Scotland will testify, much has happened over the last year. In the 2010 Spending Review it stated that, over the course of the review period, the Scottish Government will reduce resource spending by 7 per cent and capital spending by 38 per cent in real terms. Now more than ever procurement professionals are under pressure to find new and innovative ways of working in order to meet these stringent targets.

This is why the GO Awards Scotland are so important. In the never-ending quest for further innovation, improvement, efficiency and sustainability, it is easy to lose sight of the achievements that are being made right now. The Awards provide the opportunity to look at what has already been accomplished. Without some form of recognition, the motivation to continue to develop and improve is harder to maintain.

Now in its fourth year, the GO Awards Scotland provide all types of organisation – public, private and third sector – with a platform to promote and share best practice and highlight the initiatives that are making a real difference.

New categories have been included this year which recognise the changing landscape of the procurement role. The entry process has also been streamlined with an electronic submission form, reducing the time required to submit.

The emphasis of the Awards is on innovation, initiative and the creation of tangible benefits. As well as recognising individual and team performance, the Awards focus on areas such as corporate social responsibility, supplier engagement and collaborative procurement. There are also categories which reflect the private and third sector’s contribution to procurement excellence in the UK.

Categories include:

o GO Sustainability and CSR Initiative of the Year Award

o GO / John F McClelland Collaborative Procurement Initiative of the Year Award

o GO Best Service Award

o GO Procurement Innovation or Initiative of the Year Award

o GO Best Supplier Engagement Initiative of the Year Award

o GO Best Customer Engagement Initiative of the Year Award

o GO Team of the Year Award

Winners and Highly Commended entrants will receive their coveted Awards in front of hundreds of attendees at the Glasgow Marriott Hotel on 25 October 2011.

GO Managing Editor Grahame Steed said: “The GO Awards Scotland are a fantastic way of celebrating and sharing creative and innovative practices within procurement and commissioning and are more relevant than ever given the current pressures on public spending.”
