Glasgow Chamber outlines City Centre Strategy

Monday July 22nd, 2013

Glasgow City ChambersGlasgow  Chamber of Commerce  has met with a team of local business representatives to discuss the Council’s City Centre Strategy.

The strategy aims to:

  • Establish a dedicated City Centre Management resource, to address strategic and operational issues, progress opportunities and a single point of contact.
  • Create a transport strategy that recognises the benefits of all modes of transport, including private cars, with the aim of growing the economy and driving footfall to the city centre.
  • Link the retail and evening economy to deliver activity focused on increasing visitor stay and experience, and progress marketing and PR activity to change negative perceptions of the city centre.
  • Identify opportunities to maximise city centre impact of major events, including the Commonwealth Games, and to look to develop specific city centre event activity.

The submission also proposes that each of the six local business representatives be invited to participate on the City Centre Strategy Board, ensuring direct private sector representation.

Following the consultation with members, Glasgow Chamber of Commerce welcomed the development and objectives outlined in the draft City Centre Strategy.
