Funding to regenerate Barry

Thursday July 28th, 2011

The Welsh town of Barry is to benefit from around £317,000 in regeneration funding.

Housing, Regeneration and Heritage Minister Huw Lewis announced the funding at a visit to the Newydd Housing Association in Barry, who will run one of the four projects.

Newydd will use their funding to expand their home-maintenance apprenticeship programme, creating more placements for young or vulnerable adults and helping them gain permanent employment.

The Minister said: “This funding is a welcome boost to the physical, social and economic development of Barry. The projects offer a number of benefits for locals such as recreation activities and training opportunities, whilst improving the wider prospects for the town and helping to encourage further investment and development from other sectors.”

The announcement comes following discussions between the Minister and the Barry Regeneration Board.
