DWP create central hub

Wednesday July 27th, 2011

According to media reports the Department for Work and Pensions has put a start to the creation of a central hub for the gathering and analysis of data used in its efforts to reduce fraud and error in benefits payments.

It has published a tender document in the Official Journal of the European Union for a framework agreement for the provision of data services to be used in the hub. The contract, valued at between £15m and £45m over four years, is for data services suppliers which can provide data that can be used by the department in its effort to reduce fraud and error.

This will contribute to the creation, in a joint strategy with HM Revenue and Customs, of an Integrated Risk and Intelligence Service (Iris), a hub for the fraud and error activities. It is aimed at improving debt recovery, providing savings for the government and feeding into the implementation and delivery of universal credit.

A spokesman for DWP told GGC that it hopes to announce the award of a contract in early 2012.
