Community businesses are being invited to apply for grants of between £50,000 and £300,000 for projects that will make them more sustainable.

‘Power to Change’, a trust that supports community businesses in England, published guidance for interested parties on its website today and will accept applications from 24 April to 22 May.

‘Power to Change’ received £149m from the Big Lottery Fund in 2015 to award grants over seven to 10 years.

It expects 25 to 30 organisations to share £5m in this latest funding round from its flagship community business fund.

The community business fund has so far supported 90 organisations, including a community-run cinema in Newcastle, a ferry in Bristol and a lobster hatchery to preserve shellfish stocks and sustain local fishing in Northumberland.

Colette Harvey, programme manager at ‘Power to Change’, said: “We are really proud of the number and breadth of community businesses this fund has supported in its relatively short life.”
