CBI Scotland welcomes Economic Strategy

Tuesday September 13th, 2011

CBI Scotland has welcomed the launch of the Scottish Government’s Economic Strategy, which the organisation says ‘rightly puts economic growth at its heart’.

Officials said that the strategy contains a suite of ‘positive policies for the business community’, including the establishment of the four Enterprise Areas, the continued focus on exports, commitment to poundage rate parity, the development of an updated Infrastructure Investment Plan and the intent to make public sector procurement more accessible.
Director of CBI Scotland Iain McMillan said: “We are glad that the private sector is being recognised as a key driver to achieving the Scottish Government’s ambitions for Scotland and we look forward to working with Ministers to ensure that these policies benefit business and Scotland’s economy going forward.

“While we support the Scottish Government’s economic strategy, we are unable to give our support to the devolving of Corporation Ta,x as our members remain to be convinced that any benefits outweigh the certain costs, complexities and risks involved.”
