BASE Scottish Supported Business: GO Awards Scotland finalist profile

Thursday October 18th, 2012 Opps chats to BASE Scottish Supported Business, a finalist at this year’s GO Awards Scotland, which takes place on Tuesday 23rd October at Marriott Hotel, Glasgow…

1)      Why did you decide to put yourselves forward for the GO Awards Scotland this year?

The Scottish Government GO Awards are an excellent opportunity to showcase and demonstrate innovation and entrepreneurship within the Scottish Supported Business Community.  Through the exhibition of the wide variety of products and services that Scottish Supported Businesses offer on a competitive commercial basis while also demonstrating the intrinsic social value that contracting with a Scottish Supported Business has for the Procurement community

2)      What do you think sets you apart from the other nominees in your category/categories?

The Scottish Government’s innovative approach to Sustainable Procurement and Social added value sets the BASE Scottish Supported Business Nomination apart from other nominees in one key area. Each Scottish Supported Business employer has a workforce where over 50% of their staff are recognised as have a disability or impairment but are still required to operate in a highly competitive commercial environment.

3)      What would be the biggest benefit to your organisation from winning a GO Award?

The biggest benefit to BASE as an national organisation created to champion the benefits and advantages of engaging, in this case, with Scottish Supported Business is to increase the awareness of BASE as a body and its links with all the Scottish Supported Business and its involvement in the Scottish Government’s Sustainable Procurement policy. The Award would bring added value to the BASE team providing formal recognition of the effectiveness of all our efforts over the past years.  The sense of achievement this would produce will encourage them to continue to campaign to raise even more, the cause of Scottish Supported Business.

4)      What would you say has been your biggest challenge in the past year and how have you overcome it?

Establishing a team representing Scottish Supported Business’s and aligning their aims and objectives with The Scottish Government’s Procurement Strategy. Scottish Supported Businesses, historically, would have operated without any formal framework of cooperation when it came to commercial activities.  The team will discuss and plan a strategic approach to any procurement opportunities that arise and identify appropriate supply chain partners to meet the specifications of the work required.

5)      What’s next for your organisation

Scottish Supported Businesses are currently following a three year business plan that they have aligned to the timescales of the Scottish Governments Framework Policy. The main focus for BASE is to encourage an increase in Procurement Opportunities for our membership while building and developing sustainable procurement partnerships within the Scottish Supported Business community.

BASE Scottish Supported Business is a finalist at this year’s GO Awards Scotland, which takes place on Tuesday 23rd October at Marriott Hotel, Glasgow.
