Kent County Council has appointed Avanti Communications for a project aimed at giving internet access to rural residents in the county.

In a Stock Exchange statement, the firm said that ‘following a competitive tender, it has been awarded a place on the Kent County Council Rural Broadband framework, which will access funds of at least £1.5m to set up pilot projects to address the rural not spots of Kent using a range of technologies, including satellite’.

The firm was the only satellite broadband provider selected, it said. Previously, Kent County Council published an invitation to tender for rural broadband planning worth £44.3m over the next 3 years.
