Arts Council England has announced 12 schemes that will receive a share of £17.5m in funding over the next four years.Government Opportunities

The funder said the money, allocated under its Creative People and Places funding stream, would help to create arts and cultural experiences in areas of England with low levels of engagement with the arts and culture.

The Arts Council said it had decided to provide an additional £5m of funding through the scheme because of the “incredibly strong applications” it received.

Awards include £2m for a scheme led by Voluntary Action Rotherham designed to “transform local people’s involvement in leading and shaping relevant cultural provision”, £1.9m for a scheme led by Women’s Community Matters to create lasting arts infrastructure in Barrow, and £1.1m for a project led by Voluntary Norfolk to increase engagement with cultural activities in Great Yarmouth.
